Unchain The Lion is a website born out of a long and difficult period of doubt, lasting from the age of 26 until my early 30s. Then off and on for a few more years. I wanted to know, were the orthodox Christian beliefs I was raised with true? Could I know them to be true? Was there evidence that could give me a high degree of confidence? But evidence for me alone was not enough. I wanted to be confident that the ordinary Christian could possess the same level of rational confidence in the truth of Scripture, and more specifically, in the Gospel.

Thanks to a providential friendship with Tim & Lydia McGrew, I came into possession of several thousand old apologetic works. What I found was simply incredible. After several years of reading modern works (many of them excellent defenses of the faith), I was confident of Christian truth claims, but not as confident as I wanted to be. In the old books, I found more evidence for the truth of Christianity than I ever realize existed. Why had I never seen this stuff before? Why have we forgotten these old works? Churches and the individual Christians that fill her pews need to see what I've seen.

We want to instill confidence that the Bible is self-evidencing, that it gives more than enough reason to trust its claims to be an authoritative word from God.
